Checkers is the game name given by North America. The English know the game as Draughts.  The game is played on a standard Chess board; 64 black and white chequered squares.

Each player is given 12 counters. Both players place their counters (one player has black and the other white pieces), on the black squares nearest their side of the board. The white squares are not used at all in the game. Players move their pieces diagonally to stay on the black squares. The objective is to reach the other side of the board. Upon reaching the other side the player is immediately crowned and that becomes a “King”. To create a crown another piece of the same shade is placed on top of the piece, making a double piece. Until a piece is “crowned”, it can only move and capture in a diagonally forwards direction. Kings are allowed to move and capture diagonally forwards and backwards. Making them more powerful and valuable than ordinary pieces.  Ordinary pieces can still capture Kings. To take a piece off the opposition if there is a vacant square immediately beyond the other players piece the player can simply hop over it into the vacant square beyond and remove the piece from the board.  A player can move one jump at a time or a capturing move can consist of several such hops – if a piece takes an opponent’s piece and the new position allows it to take another piece, then it must do so straight away.  The move finishes only when the position of the capturing piece no longer allows it to taken any more pieces or when an uncrowned piece arrives at the far edge of the board and is crowned.

The game is won by the player who first manages to take all his opponent’s pieces or the other player is unable to make a move.

Players can use the same board for 40cm chess set pieces, refer: https://activelyinspired.com.au//product/giant-chess-sets/
